Om Yoga Show London October 2023
/Loads of notice for this… The Om Yoga Show London is on in October, 13th, 14th & 15th. Yes, I know it’s ages and ages and ages away. I haven’t been since 2019 so I’m absolutely starved of the show.

This blog gives a view of yoga from a student’s point of view. That’s me! I have been teaching since 2012 but always a student. I love being part of the yoga world and continually learning. I write about the top teachers, the yoga shows and festivals, the studios and workshops, and the promise of yoga’s self discovery. In this blog I include retreat information, workshop recommendations and Yoga In The News.

Read MoreI mentioned this book last week, Keeping The Breath In Mind by Ajaan Lee Dhammadharo and I have a second passage to give you this week. It’s a bit long so I’ve edited it. (The full chapter is attached, if you’re interested in more) Use the instruction after having established a breathing practice; a stable and comfortable inhalation and exhalation, a focused mind. This will also help with the focus:
Read MoreI found a gorgeous book called Keeping The Breath In Mind by Ajaan Lee Dhammadharo. I often wonder if I were a yoga teacher trainer, what would my booklist be. I think this might be on it.
Take a look. I’ve copied a little chunk
Read MoreValentine’s day had heart emojis flying around all week. No surprise that I want to write about the heart, but the angle came as a surprise. I hear of one doctor telling a patient that a resting heart rate of 100 beats per minute is ‘normal’ and I hear of another doctor telling another patient that her heart rate of 89 bpm is normal.
Read MoreHappy Monday! Another weekend slips by! This weekend took my 11th anniversary of teaching with it. It was Saturday 11th February in the year of the London Olympics. It was a mid-morning class at Virgin Acton, but news was already in that Whitney Houston had died.
Read MoreDid you see the planets and the stars last night? I missed the ‘planet parade’ which was after sunset, apparently, but Orion the Hunter was just above our front door! The stars assembled around Orion like a meeting. I wonder if they are gathering like Greeks Gods to plot their games with us! Anyway, still beautiful. Maybe they gathered to welcome Pelé.

I have all kinds of techniques to lure my brain away from the fire, to come and sit down with me and just be. My brain has all kinds of surprising ways of resisting!
Read MoreI think about footballers often, not just because of the world cup! Footballers come to class, along with other types of athletes and bodies, and I’m struck at how the body responds to all kinds of decisions we make: the sports we take up, the accidents we have, the career we take up. Imbalance comes with those choices ‘as standard’! Of all the one-sided sports, football really takes the biscuit!
Read MoreSome people are convinced that yoga is religious. Some try to prove legally that it isn’t. I think it's better than that. It trains your mind to be present and grateful, and it trains your body to be up for the challenge. Physical life gets harder and harder but we have a duty to be grateful for what we have, keep the body MOT’d and keep the positivity and energy going,
Read More“This is such a spiritual time of year” said a yogi. The muscular statement took me by surprise. And yet, goodness me, it’s such a spiritual time of year! Autumn Equinox and the Winter Solstice frame a time of spiritual traditions, festivity and special foods all over the world.

Yoga to enjoy! Good Times Yoga!
I always read your emails and am uplifted, this one I had to recognise as very special.
“Yoga is so misunderstood and you gave me the insight to interpret myself and give me more self understanding. Some might say ‘peace'“.
“Thanks again for another enthusiastic practice. You really come over as upbeat and I urge you to keep this up for the sake of all your yogis during these tough times!”
“I love the Ashtanga class and will try to do both this week. It’s odd practicing alone to a screen and not being in a studio with others, but this is just another adjustment to our new lives! Thank you so much for offering these free classes.”
“I really don’t want to miss out on your wonderful sessions. At the moment the internet is acting like it has a whole new obstructive personality disorder and doing just weird stuff.”
“I’m sorry to keep showering you with positive feedback, but ... I particularly enjoyed this week’s email. It’s inspired me to practice a little more yoga this morning. Your Friday emails kickstart my weekends!”
“I’ve been meaning to say for a while that I’m amazed you manage to create such fresh, interesting and varied blogs week after week for years now. Thank you.”
“I can honestly say there have been weeks when your Friday Email has been the only sparkle of light”
“You are truly a yoga poet! Great newsletter, which I’ve just enjoyed over a coffee. Thanks for all the work you put into it and your inspiring language.”
“This is beautiful writing.”
“I still can’t tell you how much I love these emails each week; they are food and thought for the soul.”
